The Kwagala Jewelry Club empowers single moms and widows with fair wages for their work through the sale of handmade crafts. In Luganda, the local language, Kwagala means love. When you purchase a piece of their handmade jewelry, the women feel loved and supported. It helps them to provide for their children that they love so much.
When a single mom has a way to care for her children and send them to school or provide medicine when they are sick, their children have few reasons to run to the street looking for better opportunities.
Currently, we are able to employ around 15–20 women throughout the year to make the jewelry. They are able to set their own prices and we cover all of the costs of the materials, ensuring that all of the money they receive is for their labor. It empowers them to dream for their futures and give their children opportunities that weren’t availed to them.
Visit our Store to see the gorgeous pieces that the women have made and shop away knowing your purchase is making a difference.
Are you interested in supporting the women on a monthly basis? Sign up for one of the levels of the Kwagala Jewelry Club below!
If you sign up for the Silver level, you will commit to giving $10 a month. To show our appreciation, you will get a newly designed small piece of jewelry (bracelet, headband, coin purse or earrings). We promise to never send the exact same piece of jewelry. So each month you can have a stunning, new piece of jewelry that was handmade with love by the women.
Gold membership will mean that you are promising to give $20 a month. In return, not only will you get the satisfaction of knowing you have helped provide a fair wage for a woman helping to lift her out of poverty, we will also send you a large piece of jewelry (necklace). Again, each month you will have a new design delivered right to your door. We will never repeat the same design in a year.
If you want to be Platinum, you will be committing to sending $30 a month. As a thank you, we will send you 2 identical pieces of jewelry, so you can keep one and give one to a friend. You will be providing a fair income for a woman, which will help her lift herself out of poverty and afford her children with a world of opportunities, while being a part of sharing our story with your friends.
